Where Recovery and Belief Meet

July 31, 2026

Recovery is not the same as belief, but in the Overcomers method, they travel together — and that pairing is deliberate. The coaching work that Phyllis Trafton has done for decades lives at the intersection of two traditions: the structured accountability of twelve-step recovery culture, and the transformative promise of biblical instruction.

Neither tradition alone is sufficient. Recovery without a transcendent frame can become a maintenance program — important, but bounded. Belief without the discipline of structured practice can remain theoretical, warming the heart without changing the daily hour. The Overcomers method asks for both.

What this looks like in practice: a cohort that reads scripture and shares honestly about what is actually happening in their lives. A workbook that pairs biblical teaching with reflection prompts drawn from recovery literature. A daily teaching post that holds both lenses open at once.

The question this post leaves you with: where in your own life do recovery and belief feel most separate? That gap is where the coaching work begins.
